Jewelry isn’t the experience it was decades ago.
The jewelry subscription market is growing at a rate of 55%, meaning more consumers are trying, buying, and subscribing online than ever before. As a leader in the try-before-you buy market, Rocksbox had the opportunity to redefine the category and own a strong position.
Rocksbox knew why they existed: they wanted to offer people something different than the overwhelming lost-in-the-racks, high-risk, transactional experience. To Meaghan Rose, Founder and CEO, and her passionate team, it was all about bringing joy and delight into the discovery, trying, and buying experience. Rocksbox wanted to leverage its unique business model to encourage customers to try and buy jewelry for themselves.
They needed help articulating their brand’s promise with both employees and customers in a way that was clear, consistent, and inspiring – so that everyone could rally behind it.
What We Learned Along the Way
Strategy is nothing without the tools to evaluate it.
Strategy can feel abstract to people who don’t speak it. Without the tools to properly evaluate it, it’s more likely that it will just sit in a deck. Whether it’s bringing strategy to life through examples or providing criteria for evaluation, helping people make strategic decisions about strategy is an integral piece of the job.
Customer-led is the new customer-centric.
Putting customers at the center of everything might no longer be enough. Today’s consumers not only want to be heard, they want brands to act on what they tell them. Whether it’s developing new products or letting your customers drive the conversation, letting the customer lead ensures your brand is made for them.
Never underestimate a feeling.
What defines compelling brand experiences are the emotions that surround them. When you take the time to align around how they want to make people feel, beyond generic generalizations like “great” or “amazing,” you get to the essence of why you truly matter.
Gina Gorman, Sr. Director of Marketing, RocksboxThanks to the work we did with Emotive Brand, our team has a great foundation for building our brand and sharing it with customers. We have an articulation of the company vision that we never had before, and can use that to make strategic and marketing decisions moving forward.”
Experience that Works
You rarely get it right the first time.
Repositioning is no easy task. Our job is to continually learn, get smarter, closer, and land it, together. With some patience and hard work, the output is bound to be something everyone can get aligned around.
Trust is built on relationships – not just stellar work.
In today’s world, building a relationship – in person – goes a long way. With Rocksbox, we took the time to always discuss live if possible. Magic happens when people have the space to open up, build trust, and move things forward.
Founders’ stories have to be authentic to be powerful.
We worked one-on-one with Meaghan to get to the heart of the story she wanted to tell and the way she wanted to tell it. Embracing her authenticity made the story all the more powerful, inspirational, and unique.
Teams have to see the potential.
The strongest strategies don’t just sound good on paper. With Rocksbox, we could tell when strategy was right simply by reading the energy in the room. The team was fired up about implementing and leveraging our work, right away.
