Let's talk

Hello!

Field Note: No 002

Your investors’ names are becoming your whole story.

Pre-Exit CEOGoing PublicInvestor Names

You're valued on how the market understands your business, so when your description of your company could belong to anyone, a famous investor's name gets the headlines.

It’s reassuring to head into an IPO with names on your cap table nobody needs explained. Your board knows how hard those investors were to win.

Firmus lists this month at A$11 a share, and about half the offering is reportedly going to existing backers, a group that includes Nvidia, Coatue, and Blackstone.

Its homepage leads with creating the most efficient AI infrastructure, a line any rival could use. Further down sit things only Firmus can claim, from published energy data to MLPerf results to 900 megawatts of contracted capacity. The headlines skip all of it and call it “Nvidia-backed.”

Strong backers are a real asset, and demand reportedly ran ahead of the shares on offer. The risk for Firmus comes after the listing, when a story built on the backers’ names rises and falls with their reputation.

Before the roadshow or the first buyer meeting, write the one sentence you want buyers to know about you. Leave every investor out of it, and put your best proof in.
